7 things that may be the cause of insomnia

Sleep is a basic need of children. During sleep, the child collects his energy back, even growth can occur during sleep in childhood. However, sometimes children are difficult to sleep with. Sometimes children feel sleep is a boring activity for him.

Why do children have trouble sleeping?

Many reasons make it difficult for children to sleep. The following might be one reason:

1. Children are afraid of sleeping apart from their parents

Often, young children experience anxiety when he sleeps separately from his parents, so sleep time is a scary thing for him. Small children are usually afraid to sleep in the dark and sleep alone, so he will be afraid when entering sleep time.

If a child is afraid, it means he needs your help as a parent. Brain maturity and cognitive abilities of young children are still unable to handle emotional stress well. Maybe you think a child who sleeps separately from you is part of sleep training for him, but there is no evidence to suggest that sleeping separately from parents will make the child's fear of sleep time be reduced.

In fact, research shows that a child's fear of going to sleep can cause a child's nightmares and emotional problems.

You can accompany your child to sleep, or decorate her bedroom with photos or toys that children love so that children are happy. Also adjust the child's room temperature so that the child is not cold or too hot.

Make the child's bedroom as comfortable as possible for the child. As the child gets older, the child's fear of sleep will eventually disappear.

2. Nightmare

Children who have had nightmares will usually be afraid to sleep. This nightmare is usually caused because before sleeping the child watches a scary movie or read a scary story book.

It's a good idea to recommend a movie or story book that isn't scary for kids. Encourage children to think of things that are fun before going to sleep, such as the place of dreams or activities that really want to do, or other things.

3. The wrong time to sleep

Many parents have told their children to sleep at a time that is too fast for the child, before their bodies are ready for sleep. The body has not produced enough hormone melatonin to sleep.

Children who get into bed too quickly, will make them feel bored and this can trigger children to think about things that scare them.

4. Problems with circadian sleep rhythm

Every individual has their own circadian rhythm. This circadian rhythm can regulate when the child's body needs sleep and when to wake up. If your child finds it difficult to get to sleep at night or is difficult to stay awake during the day, your child may have problems with his circadian rhythm.

To overcome this problem, you may be able to readjust the child's biological clock to its environment gradually. You can take the child out of the house during the day so the child is exposed to the sun.

Then when it is time for night and time to sleep, you can turn off the child's room lights or other electronics that emit blue light. Because lights and electronic goods, such as television, can suppress the production of melatonin (a hormone that makes children sleep), so that children will be more difficult to sleep in a bright room.

5. Television and other electronic devices

Research in the United States shows that watching too much television, both during the day and night, is associated with higher problems at bedtime, such as anxiety, delayed sleep time, and children refusing to sleep.

Other research also shows that children who watch television shows for adults, such as afternoon news programs, can reduce the duration of a child's sleep and increase sleep disorders in children. Television is not the only electronic device that can cause sleep disorders in children. Video games, computers and cellphones can also cause problems while sleeping.

6. Stress and anxiety

If your child has difficulty falling asleep, this may be due to the stress and anxiety he is getting today. Stress can increase stress hormones in the body, thus making children feel unwilling to sleep.

This stress and anxiety can be obtained by children from their environment, such as problems with friends, thinking about school exams, or about the activities they have done.

Before going to sleep, you should help your child reduce his stress. You can invite children to discuss to make him tell what he is thinking, give advice to children, and invite him to do things that are fun.

7. The wrong nap time

The child may not be able to sleep at night because he has spent a very long nap. Naps are good and beneficial for children, but if they are too long and done at the wrong time, naps can interfere with the child's nighttime sleep.

Usually children who take time to sleep in the afternoon before the afternoon can experience problems during their night sleep.
